[Sure, Anaxagoras just had surgery. That experiment had backfired and he'd ended up with an infection in his arm that needed treating. It happens!

That is no reason to stop working. He is an alchemist! He has things to do! Who cares if his arm is sore and he should be resting and taking his meds and taking it easy?]

[Hyacine.

Hyacine cares a lot, actually.

And that's why she's hired Ciar to make sure Anaxagoras actually properly recovers after his surgery (and possibly also to look after him once he has recovered). She's given him a key to get into Anaxagoras's place, so Ciar just casually lets himself in.

Once he has, he clears his throat before--]

Anaxagoras.

[Just loud enough to make sure it carries to wherever the man in question might be.]

[anaxadromas]

[No response.

Until his cat comes trotting down the stairs to tell on his human. He's a familiar, it's his job.]

[quicksilverwings]

[He hums in acknowledgement of the familiar.]

Upstairs, then. I assume he's already back to work?

[As he starts heading up the stairs.]

[anaxadromas]

Mynah!

[That is a "yes".

Anaxa, for what it's worth, is in his office writing down his latest observations. He doesn't do them on the computer, he prefers to handwrite them.]

[Ciar leans against the door frame of the office, crossing his arms.]

You know, Anaxagoras, you generally run less risk of interrupting your own work again if you properly recover before you get back to it.

[anaxadromas]

Who gave you the key?

[Not even slightly fazed or shamed.]

Do I need to scold Hyacine or remind Tribios why you don't just hand out keys to my house?

One of them did and I'm not telling you which one.

[He stretches a bit, quirking an eyebrow.]

Man, I knew you were a workaholic but not even resting after surgery? Seriously?

[anaxadromas]

It was a minor surgery, hardly worth resting after.

[His arm is wrapped in bandages and he is favoring it heavily.]

You're heavily favoring that arm, that's more than enough justification to rest. Letting it recover fully means you won't be interrupted in your work by fucking it up further because you didn't rest.

[anaxadromas]

It's my non-dominant arm. I'll be fine.

[Very briefly, he's giving the cat a Look like "I can't believe this is what you have to deal with".

Okay. Patience, Ciar. Inhale. Exhale.

He's starting to see why Hyacine hired him.]

I'm giving you a minute to get to a reasonable stopping point.

[anaxadromas]

I would need ten, so you might as well give up.

[The familiar, a pretty smoky grey tom named Thales, just mews. Yeah, he knows.]

[quicksilverwings]

Alright, I'm giving you ten minutes.

[And he's going to pull out his phone and set a timer.]

[anaxadromas]

[Which Anaxa ignores, working away. He wasn't wrong, at least, and ten minutes would be enough if he had any intention of stopping.

He does not.]

[quicksilverwings]

[And then the timer on Ciar's phone goes off.

He puts away his e-reader, moving from the doorframe.]

Time's up. We can do this the easy way or we can do this the undignified way.

[anaxadromas]

[Anaxa just waves him off.

Thales mews. Undignified it is!]

[quicksilverwings]

Undignified way it is, then!

[And that is entirely too cheerful for what comes next. He moves behind the desk, pulling Anaxa's chair away before ever so casually hefting him up.]

[anaxadromas]

[The most undignified noises to ever be heard come from Anaxagoras as he is hefted up by Ciar.]

Wha--put me down!

[quicksilverwings]

Nope! You said ten minutes, I held you to that, and I gave you the choice to step away on your own.

[That would have been the easy way, you see.]

[anaxadromas]

I thought you left! Like a sensible person!

[quicksilverwings]

[Ciar doesn't respond to that, beyond maybe giving Thales another sidelong glance.

He carries Anaxa downstairs.]

When's the last time you ate and when's the last time you took your meds?

[anaxadromas]

I don't know. I don't keep track of time like that.

[So.]

Ughhhhhhhh. You really need to start doing that with the medication, Anaxagoras! Please tell me you at least realize why that's important.

[anaxadromas]

Because it's an antibiotic, and weak one at that. I can and have made much stronger ones. I simply need to find a way to make the side-effects less awful.
