[Aventurine used to be a favorite of the International Private Trade Company (IPC for short). He was young, clever, and very charming and therefore made them so much money in trade agreements.

So when he set fire to their head office and ran off with his sister and the rest of the thought lost Avgin armada, it was a little surprising. That's on them, though, as he never hid his hatred for some of the higher ups in the Company.

Now Kakavasha--or Captain Vasha--heads the Armada with it's flagship the Stoneheart, a notorious pirate who sails the seas and actively hunts the IPC ships. It's a dangerous life, but he loves it.]

Kim and Phoebe, two of my best. Kim's the master gunner, Phoebe...is also a gunner but also kind of just does a little of everything. She's good like that.

[Kim pats his shoulder before they go off to relay that to the rest of the crew, Phoebe right behind them.

Veritas, for his part, is just looking at the fried fish that Kim brought over.]

It smells wonderful.

We use a special blend of spices in the breading, and there's really nothing like freshly caught fish for dinner, you know?

[Veritas nods.]

Definitely nothing like it.

[Vasha pours himself another glass of something alcoholic, offering the bottle to Veritas. If he wants something else, there's water or juice nearby.]

...okay, I have to ask. Do sirens really eat their food raw or...?

[He eyes the alcohol with mild uncertainty, then opts for the juice.]

That depends on the siren, their circumstances, and their personal tastes. I... have, but I dislike it, personally.

I knew that one had to be a lie. It just didn't make any sense, honestly. Merfolk, that's one thing, but why would you eat raw if you don't have to?

Some will. I don't understand the appeal.

So, what else do you eat?

Meat, when it's available to me.

[Sirens being carnivorous and all.]

I can eat fruits and vegetables and the like, but primarily meat and fish for obvious reasons.

Have you ever had beef?

[He shakes his head.]

I haven't, no.

Then we we get back to the harbor, you have got to try beef curry. I think you'll like it. Ooh, or steak.

[It takes them a few days, closer to a week, before they reach the harbor Vasha had mentioned. Nameless Island ("Yes, that is really the name, it's a terrible joke.") is home to Port Astral, named for the gorgeous reflections of the night sky you can see in the water around the island. It's a safe haven for many people, especially the Avgin Armada.

As they make ready to dock, Vasha tracks Veritas down. He's not sure the siren ever heard of this place, and it is...a place that requires explanation.]

[Veritas is out on the deck, trying to keep out of the crew's way. He brightens a bit when he sees Vasha approach, though.]

There you are~ How are you feeling?

Nervous, to tell you the truth. I've always avoided any sort of human settlement before, so this is almost a little daunting.

[takesitall]

Well, I have wonderful news for you. You still get to avoid human settlements for a little while longer.

[A passing crew member snorts.]

Port Astral is home to a dragon, one of the most powerful spellcasters in the world, a girl who is probably some sort of faerie, one human, and whatever the hell the twins are. My money is personally on fallen stars, but Parisa thinks they might just be semi-feral humans.

And you're certain they'll be alright with...?

[You know. The whole siren thing.]

Oh, absolutely. Miss Robin spends a lot of time in the area, and she's a siren.

Ah. Fair enough, then.

[The fact that another siren spends considerable time in the area is a comfort, evident in the way Veritas visibly relaxes.

... He may still keep his wings out when they're outdoors, though. Just in case ]
